4 Signs That Drivers Should Replace Their Car Glass
There are many maintenance jobs that drivers need to do on a regular basis, whether it’s changing your oil or putting air in your tyres, but one thing that most of us don’t think about is our car glass. Unless it’s visibly damaged or blocking your view, then you might not realise you need car glass replacement, but when you’re driving on the motorways of the Midlands such as the M6, or the rural roads, then your car glass is essential for safety. Here are some signs that it might be replacing.
1. Chips
Chips are a common form of damage to windscreens. With a huge number of lorries on the road around areas like Derby and Loughborough, and loose road surfaces, small stones can hit your glass, which can cause chips to form. While they may not seem a big deal, and you may not even notice them at first, chips can soon turn into cracks when the Midlands cold weather turns up, or if you find yourself hitting a pothole. It’s easy to get chip repair, which uses a resin to fill in small chips, keeping your windscreen strong and secure.
2. Scratches
Scratches can be caused by many things, including:
· Old windscreen wipers
· Tree branches
· Vandalism
· Accidents
Surface scratches aren’t necessarily unsafe, but they are unsightly, and can mean you have poor visibility through your windscreen. It’s worth looking for cheap car glass replacement, as windscreens that don’t have a clear view of the road can see you in violation of the highway code. If you get pulled over by the police, this can mean points on your licence, or even a fine.
3. Cracks
Windscreen, or any car glass cracks, should be dealt with immediately. This is because they weaken the glass, and so even a small impact such as hitting the kerb can make the glass shatter, which could injure you or your passengers. When you spot a crack, look for auto glass replacement, and ensure it’s done before you go back on the road. The other risk with cracks is that they can block your line of sight, which can lead to blind spots which cause accidents.
4. Shattered glass
If any of your glass is shattered, find a safe spot to pull over as soon as possible. Your front and back windscreens are important to the structural integrity of your car, so driving it around is extremely dangerous. You also risk injury from the broken glass in your car. If you’re on the motorway, pull over onto the hard shoulder and call a technician who specialises in auto windscreens, as they’ll be able to come out quickly and ensure your car is safe. You’ll soon be back on the road and can prevent injuries or further damage to your car.
